1950

On a summer afternoon, Fran Ruiz decided to embark on a photo shoot that would be a tribute to the aesthetics of the 1950s.
The model, with her beauty, was the perfect choice for this project.
Her face would be the canvas on which he would capture the nostalgia and sophistication of that golden age of photography…

Reels of film, those rolls of film that captured moments in an analogue era, evoke nostalgia and creativity. Each exposure was a careful act, limited by a finite number of frames. The anticipation of developing the film, with the uncertainty of what moments had been immortalised, added to the excitement of photography. The choice of film, ISO sensitivity and technique were essential to achieve exceptional images. Today, in the digital age, film reels are treasures of the past, but their aesthetics and uniqueness persist. Through them, we learn to value patience and authenticity in an age of immediacy and digital retouching.

The setting was simple but carefully selected: a minimalist studio with a white back wall and a single source of soft light falling on the model’s face. We wanted the focus to be exclusively on her expression and features.

The shoot unfolded with a solemn stillness. The model channelled the elegance and sophistication of the era through her expressions. With each click of the shutter, we captured the serenity in her gaze, the coquetry in her smile and the intrigue in her eyes. Each image was a window into a time gone by, a reminder of the beauty and simplicity of that era.

As we progressed through the shoot, the model seemed to be transported back to the 1950’s. Her gestures and poses evoked the grace and style of the iconic actresses of that decade. Each photograph we took was like a snapshot from a black and white film, with a cinematic quality that seemed to be straight out of the classic films of the era.
